What Does the League Think of the 2025 Chicago Bears, Volume VII: Defensive Line

-

And we’re switching to the other side of the ball! What do an executive, area scout, pro personnel assistant and personnel man-turned-media member think of the 2025 Bears defense? I like the question format more than the evaluative format so I’m sticking with that process.

Do the Bears have enough pass rush? “Short answer is no. Not on the outside. But DA seemed to really want the Indy kid (Dayo Odeyingbo) and they have a logjam now of good players in the middle. We didn’t identify him as a potential game changer on the edge but if DA turns him into an eight or nine sack guy, I don’t think their edge rush will be a liability.”

What did you see when scouting this DL in 2024? “Billings is such a good player and when he wasn’t on the field you could run right through them.”

What does Grady Jarrett have left? “Surprising signing for me. Thought Jarrett would be an expensive one-year deal for a contender. Buffalo or Baltimore or somewhere like that. I think he has enough to be a rotational player. But sorta the way Ben brought in Thuney and Jonah to change the culture on offense, I wonder if DA just wanted a high character guy for that reason. Nobody is higher character than Grady.”

Subscribe to the BFR Youtube channel and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.

Who do you love on this defensive line? “Dexter. Our draft room let out some audible ‘fucks’ when the Bears grabbed him. And he’s just scratching the surface. What is he, 23?”

Who don’t you love on this defensive line? “I don’t love Sweat. Especially after the 2024 tape. There’s just been this assumption around the league that he was hurt last season but what’s the injury? Normally, we can look at the tape and see what’s nagging a guy. Nothing is obvious on his tape.”

Pretty hard to find motivation to work hard for a team that the coaches didn’t care if they won or lost as long as they got paid

Sweat took the money and then discovered there was nothing to play for last season.

The pass rush should be more effective strictly because: -upgrades along our IOL -utilizing playaction -scoring early, and then playing with a lead Just like Skeeter alluded to, chicken or the egg. Force the opponents into passing situations, then tee off on their QB. Yes, it would be nice to have a little more fangs on our pass rush, but like I’ve said numerous times, if we get consistent disruption along the interior, opposing OLs are going to have to close in a bit, and our edge guys will have a little easier jobs. For me personally, I”d be willing… Read more »

This article reminds me of the old adage, what came 1st, the chicken or the egg?

How the heck can anyone evaluate a new team when they haven’t played 1 down of regular season football.

What usually comes 1st when it comes to making assessments, to play the game, or just give opinions, I’m gonna pick playing the game comes 1st.
