That Time Martellus Bennett Almost Whooped Brandon Marshall’s Ass

-

It’s hardly a secret at this point that Brandon Marshall was tough to deal with at times. The former Chicago Bears wide receiver had his good stretches as a leader and teammate, but sometimes he had a tendency to get combative and standoffish. A man governed by emotions. It didn’t help that he was so damn good. That made it difficult for people to stand up to him because if they said or did the wrong thing, they could be gone. One guys who apparently had no such fear? Martellus Bennett.

The former tight end was also known for being a great teammate at times and a downright headache at others. However, he was a joy to have around in the early days of his arrival in 2013. Not only because he was entertaining as hell, but also because he didn’t back down from anybody. Marshall found that out the hard way according to former teammate Earl Bennett.

It came during a rest period by the pool.

“On one particular day a conversation between Marshall and Martellus would give me insight that the one thing you should not do is poke this Bear. Marshall and Martellus began to argue over who knows what and all I hear is Marshall stating how many pro bowls he had been to and the multitude of accolades he has accomplished.

Typically, guys would concede because he was Brandon Marshall, and his accolades would get them kicked off the team if they fought him, but not Martellus. Martellus listened to all of Marshall’s accolades and proceeded with ‘Yea pro bowlers can get their ass whooped too.'”

Marshall did not expect Martellus Bennett to do that

While the two kept bickering, the wide receiver decided to back down rather than risk a fight. It was the first time Earl had seen anybody standout up to Marshall. While a lot of Bears fans have bitter memories of how the tight end left town, nobody can deny he was a tough SOB who did some great work at that position. Work the team would probably kill for at this point.
