There was a legitimate fear among Chicago Bears fans. When Danny Trevathan signed his new three-year deal to return, everyone realized that Nick Kwiatkoski would become a free agent. This put him squarely in the sights of the Green Bay Packers, a team desperate for inside linebacker help and reportedly had significant interest in the 26-year old. Would he be another Adrian Amos?
The answer, mercifully, is no. Kwiatkoski tweeted a photograph not to long ago. It showed a picture of the new stadium being built in Las Vegas for the Raiders. This was a dead giveaway that the linebacker would be donning the silver and black moving forward. A quality move for both player and team. Kwiatkoski likely gets a big payday and the Raiders get badly needed help at a key position for their defense.
For the Bears, this could be a great help to them next year. Depending on how big of a contract he signs and what they do in free agency, this could end up landing them a compensatory draft pick in 2021. Either way, it’s nice to know they won’t have to play him twice a year. That would’ve been a painful experience, literally and figuratively. If nothing else, the Bears got four quality years out of him as a former 4th round pick. That one can go down as a success for GM Ryan Pace.
