Lachavious Simmons Got Famous Nickname From His Grandma (Who Is Savage)

-

Lachavious Simmons was not the name a lot of Chicago Bears fans expected to get called at the end of the NFL draft. Many were holding out hope the team might still grab a quarterback or maybe a safety. Instead, they got a giant offensive guard from a Historically Black College. The same one Richard Dent attended way back in the day. Such players have been good to the Bears in years past, so it’s hard to be too mad at it.

Especially since Sam Summerville, one of their best scouts was the man who identified him as a worthy venture. Experts view the kid as a big, athletic talent with a mauler mentality. He has a natural strength to him. Something he no doubt picked up while living on a farm in Alabama during his youth. That’s also apparently where he picked up his longtime nickname “Pig” that Matt Nagy referenced during their called after he was selected.

According to Summerville, Simmons earned that from his grandmother.

“When he was young, his grandmother is the one that gave him the name ‘Pig.’ Partly because he liked to eat and of course he grew up on a farm. So it was just natural for him.”

Sounds like Lachavious Simmons was raised right

Simmons’ grandmother sounds like quite the savage. One can imagine a kid wouldn’t like drawing the nickname “Pig” in his youth like that. It certainly stuck around and he seems to have embraced. Especially since he started eating defenders up with blocking. Scouts around the league seemed to like him. They see a player with high upside who can start in the NFL if he learns to polish up his fundamentals and proves he can handle the sizable leap in competition.

If he ends up panning out, once can rest assured that nickname will be uttered with the utmost love and respect by Bears fans.
