Even Their Main Competition Now Think Bears Will Land Mike Glennon

-

According to NBC Sports and others, it seems the Jets are taking their hat out of the ring.

“Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News has downplayed the Jets reported interest in Mike Glennon, but says a pursuit of (Tyrod) Taylor if the Bills let him go makes sense.

While the Jets may simply think Glennon isn’t worth the money he’s expected to command (and they reportedly think he’s headed to the Bears), Taylor is a bit more of a proven commodity.”

This isn’t going to make a lot of Bears fans happy. They, like many national experts don’t view Glennon as the answer under center. He’s little more than a failed experiment from another team that saw fit to already start and replace him. He’s another Brock Osweiler. Big and boasting a strong arm but just having no actual feel for the position at the NFL level.

That may be simplifying the matter a bit too much. Glennon flashed some promise at times under some very difficult circumstances. He played under two different head coaches and three different offensive coordinators in his two years as a starter. Both of those head coaches aren’t even in the NFL anymore. Pace and Fox seem to think that a more stable situation with good personnel around him might unlock some hidden potential in Glennon.

It also might not be the only QB move the Bears have planned. Some, including Sports Mockery, have suggested they also intend to use a high draft choice at the position as well. Similar to how Seattle operated in 2012, signing Matt Flynn and then drafting Russell Wilson. The idea being to take two good cuts at finding the guy. Of course they did indeed with Wilson. The Bears may hope duplicating that process will yield results.

Nobody will know for sure until free agency opens on March 9th.
