Clay Matthews Brutally Trolled the Bears Offense After Loss

-

Clay Matthews has long been a major Chicago Bears villain from his days with the Green Bay Packers. So it was no surprise the linebacker had plenty to say about the game in regards to how his Los Angeles Rams defense pretty much shut the Bears offense down. Granted, a lot of the wounds were self-inflicted. Six drops by the wide receivers. Multiple inaccurate passes by the quarterback. Ill-timed penalties. Pretty much the standard operating procedure for this season.

Matthews didn’t waste his opportunity to rub some extra salt in the wound. How? By basically saying that the Bears didn’t even provide enough competition to make things interesting for them. That the Rams defense couldn’t get into a groove because the Bears offense was so easy to stop at times.

“When you can hold an offense to (seven) points, it’s obviously a great performance. Forced turnover, lot of three and outs. It almost was difficult for the defense to get in a rhythm when you have those outstanding games where you’re out there three plays, three plays, three plays. Sometimes you want those drives just to get into a rhythm and flow.”

It’s so easy to hate Matthews for saying that and for what he’s done over the years, but honestly? He’s not wrong. The Bears offense is a joke. Why should he offer fake respect to it at this point? It sucks. He knows it and everybody else knows it.

Clay Matthews is right and that’s what hurts the most

Here’s a reminder of something. Matthews has been in the NFL since 2009 and played the Bears every season of his career. In that span, the Bears have fielded a top 10 offense just once. One time in a decade. It’s little wonder the linebacker has developed an utter lack of respect or fear whenever he plays this team. Constructing and fielding a unit that can actually score points has been like trying to decipher the Rosetta stone.

Matt Nagy was hired from Kansas City to make sure stuff like this doesn’t happen. Yet it’s happening and that is perhaps what makes it hurt the most. Even Marc Trestman had more success than him, averaging 23.87 points per game to Nagy’s 22.69. Do people understand how humiliating that is? Nobody can say for sure if Nagy will survive to coach one more year in 2020. He probably will if only because of his contract but unless some massive changes are made, this nightmare will continue.
