The NFL has a big problem on their hands. Not only might they have to play games without fans in the stands, but it goes beyond that. Football is a contact sport. Players are putting their hands on each other and colliding several times per game. That is a perfect recipe for a virus to spread quickly. Say one like COVID-19. So it appears the league is taking steps to do anything and everything to prevent that from happening. One method is specially designed helmets. One that features face masks that offer full coverage of the face and mouth. The Stadium sports network released a possible example of how that would look using the Chicago Bears as a model.

Honestly? They’re pretty sharp.

One popular comparison made is they tend to look like the helmet worn by the Master Chief. For those who might not know that reference, he is the iconic main character of the Halo video game franchise. When looking at the two stacked together, the resemblance is fair.

Chicago Bears must adjust to this weird reality fast

The truth is Bears players have a tough season ahead of them. It’s hard enough to just constantly put in the usual work to have success in the NFL. Now they’re going to have to do it under far stricter medical procedures than they’ve ever encountered before. Constant testing to make sure they’re not infected with COVID-19, possible quarantine if they are, and now wearing uniform alternations to help stop the spread.

Keep in mind the helmet design isn’t perfect. Full facial coverage could lead to problems with visors fogging up from hot breath during games. It’s uncertain if those designs are official. Still, it is an idea of where things may progress in the next few months. There are still lots of details being worked out.
