People are still wrestling with the idea of whether actual NFL football will be played this year. COVID-19 issues aren’t going away anytime soon. A total of 69 players chose to not play this season due to concerns over it. Yet the real damage is yet to come. There is a growing belief that college football may not happen this fall. Several programs have already canceled their fall schedules and fears are growing that the major conferences will soon follow. This could end up having a gigantic impact on the Chicago Bears 2020 schedule.

How so? As things stand, the NFL plays its games on three nights a week. It starts on Thursday, then the majority are played on Sunday with one or two happening on Monday nights. That has been the standard for years. If college football bows out, there is a growing belief the league could take advantage by sliding games into the traditional Friday and Saturday time slots reserved for the NCAA.

As of today, the Bears played 13 of their scheduled 16 games on Sundays with two Monday night games and one Thursday night game. It’s not hard to envision the NFL shifting one or two of those Sunday games to a Friday or Saturday evening matchup instead. Given their national appeal, it would be a no brainer.

Chicago Bears 2020 schedule doesn’t need more havoc

It isn’t difficult to see why the league would do this. TV Networks would probably offer a pretty penny to the NFL to fill those time slots. More money is always something the league is looking for. Inconveniencing the coaches and players is no skin off their backs. That doesn’t mean it would be any less of a hassle for the Bears.

One thing that can often decide the fate of a season is consistency. Getting to play most of their games on a Sunday this season is an underrated benefit for the Bears. It would allow them to settle into a routine, allowing them to focus better. Having to suddenly shift to Saturdays or Fridays would be something they aren’t ready for.

Knowing the kind of luck this organization has? It’s a virtual lock to happen at this rate.
