Caleb Williams Already Earning Respect in Unique Way at Halas Hall

-

Replacing Justin Fields on the field might not be the toughest challenge for the new Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. That’s just the honest reality. However, the situation off the field, especially in the locker room, is a different matter. Fields was an outstanding teammate and highly respected by many of his former teammates. So, Williams will have to step in and strive to recreate that same chemistry and leadership. Being a rookie, Williams will need time to establish himself, but CHGO was fortunate to have an interview with John Jackson III, who is not only one of Caleb’s closest friends but also currently on the Bears roster. Jackson provided valuable insights into how Williams is working to earn the respect of the Bears locker room.

We show up there every morning at 6 AM. We just sit there and meet and ask tons and tons of questions.. Him [Caleb] going in there driving and asking questions, just really being a student is the biggest thing that he is focused on. You kind of get that respect. You know guys see you coming in early, guys see you committed to it. You kind of earn respect that way. So I think that is the way he is going about it rather than being very vocal.”

Caleb Williams is doing exactly what he said he was going to do.

A few weeks ago, Caleb Williams shared an intriguing and impressive quote about his mindset as he approached rookie mini-camp and the remainder of the off-season. Here’s what he said.

“To be a great leader, you got to learn how to follow first. Right now, I’m following all the vets.. having both ears open and my mouth shut.”

It seems that Caleb Williams isn’t just saying the right things; he’s also going out and following through. You just love to see it from the rookie signal caller.

All of this should be expected by Caleb. Just out of curiosity, when do the other QBs come in and what are they doing? Bagent’s growth and development should be one of the top QB goals too. I also wonder what the QBs can teach other that might be important.
