Bears Score Justin Fields More Firepower With Dynamic WR

-

The Chicago Bears aren’t messing around. They’ve made it clear they are committed to building around Justin Fields. They already added wide receiver D.J. Moore, right tackle Darnell Wright, and underrated running back Roschon Johnson. Now they score perhaps one of the bigger steals of the draft in Cincinnati receiver Tyler Scott. He earned comparisons to T.Y. Hilton. The young man has blazing speed, good route-running prowess, and is much stronger after the catch than you’d think. That GM Ryan Poles got him in the 4th round is frankly insane.

If you were to pair a quarterback and receiver, Fields and Scott are a natural fit. You have a big-armed quarterback with a good deep ball and a speedy receiver that is at his best when allowed to run down the field. It’s a perfect marriage. It also gives the Bears one of the speediest receiving corps in the league, alongside Moore and Darnell Mooney. Even better, Scott has plenty of experience on special teams. So even if he doesn’t play right away on offense, he will be a contributor in the third phase.

Justin Fields can also rely on Scott in another way.

One persistent issue with Bears receivers last year was their inability to make plays after the catch. That is a core strength of Scott’s game, thanks in large part to his running back history in high school. Get the ball in his hands and he will make something happen. That should allow Justin Fields to unload some shorter passes, knowing his guy can create more. The one concern people will have with the young receiver is his size. He’s only 5’10 and 177 lbs. The Bears will need to give him opportunities to work in space.

That said, he has the route-running skills to create it on his own. He’ll be working under an excellent coach in Tyke Tolbert who has seen his type before.
