Jamal Adams has certainly made a spectacle of himself in recent weeks. The disgruntled safety isn’t happy with the contract offers he’s been getting from the New York Jets. So he’s made it seem like he’s done playing there and expects a trade. Despite zero incentive for the team to meet those demands. They have control of him for two more years if they wish. So these tactics aren’t likely to scare them. Besides, it’s not like he should have a monopoly on demanding a new contract. If anything, Allen Robinson deserves it more.

That is what NFL.com analytics specialist Cynthia Frelund says anyway. She ranked 10 players most deserving of new deals going into this season. Patrick Mahomes was #1 for obvious reasons. One would think Adams is near the top of the list right? Nope. He’s nestled at #9. One spot behind the star Chicago Bears receiver. Her numbers confirm what every fan already knows.

Robinson is criminally overlooked.

“Robinson is the only player I’m looking at for this article who is seeking a third contract, as he’s entering the final year of a three-season deal with the Bears. His average of $14 million dollars over each of the past three seasons ranks 14th at the position, per Over The Cap, which is a higher ranking than my projection — but even so, he’s likely undervalued.

How? Only 64.9 percent of Robinson’s career targets have been catchable, the fifth-lowest rate among the 82 receivers with 250-plus targets since 2014, per PFF. In other words, QB play has been a limiting factor for a receiver who’s spent his career catching passes from Blake Bortles and Mitchell Trubisky.”

Robinson has way more impact plays than Jamal Adams

Nobody is disputing that Adams is a great player. For his position. The reality is strong safeties don’t deliver as many true impact plays. He had 6.5 sacks last year, but only two interceptions in his career. Yet people continue to claim he’s head and shoulders above Eddie Jackson. This despite Jackson having five times as many. Robinson is even more valuable to the Bears than him, which paints a pretty clear picture.

This guy deserves a new contract. This isn’t lost on the Bears. They’ve made it clear they want to get a deal done. The problem is the nature of the current climate makes that difficult. Mostly due to uncertainty on how COVID-19 will affect the financial situation for the NFL in the next few years. Odds are something will get done before the regular season begins.

Either way, Robinson deserves a ton of credit for not taking the route Adams has and made himself a distraction. He’s focused on his own business.
