Allen Robinson can only control what he controls. He’s a wide receiver. So he’s heavily dependent on another position for his own personal success. The guy was handed a situation in 2019 that most receivers wouldn’t handle well. Rather than use it as an excuse, he turned it into a positive and thus became far and away the best offensive player on the Chicago Bears roster.

This is why fans are so nervous about the team not working faster to extend him. A sense of urgency many in the national media don’t seem to understand. It seems like every time somebody releases a list of the top 10 receivers in the league, Robinson is left off. They just don’t view him as anything special.

A sentiment that is apparently shared by the makers of the Madden video game franchise. They released their annual ratings for the upcoming season. Robinson earned an 89, putting him on the same tier as guys like Cooper Kupp, Chris Godwin, and Tyler Lockett. That does not sit well with NFL.com analyst Adam Rank who sees it as a major show of disrespect.

“I’m bummed we have to keep having this conversation about Robinson’s status as one of the elite receivers in the NFL. At some point, I need to stop trying to convince people. Like the way I’ve given up on trying to convince folks that Star Wars: Episode VIII really is a great movie, maybe even a top-three Star Wars film.

Robinson had 98 receptions for 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns last year, his best marks since 2015. As for the added degree of difficulty Robinson faced, well, we really don’t need to go into the Bears’ quarterback situation last year, do we?”

Allen Robinson isn’t complaining but he’s also taking notes

Rest assured, the man isn’t blind. He’s well aware of these numerous slights from such people who probably aren’t known for their film study. That is fine. All it does is add more gasoline to his fire. Robinson isn’t the most outspoken guy in front of the cameras but his social media presence shows that he can be a passionate person. If what he’s done isn’t enough to convince people, he’ll just have to go out and do it again.

The big question will be which quarterback tries to help him do it. Will it be Mitch Trubisky one more time or will Nick Foles take his own turn at it? Bears fans don’t really care. All they’re asking is for somebody who can get the most out of Robinson’s ability. Something no QB has managed to do yet. That’s the crazy thing.

The NFL hasn’t seen the real Allen Robinson yet.
