Aaron Jones Called Luke Getsy “Special” After Bears Hired Him

-

The Green Bay Packers are primarily responsible for helping Luke Getsy advance his career in the NFL. They know what he brings to the table. So it makes sense many in the organization weren’t happy to see him go this offseason. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers lobbied for him to stay after the departure of Nathaniel Hackett to Denver. Unfortunately, the Packers couldn’t offer him what the Chicago Bears could. That was a chance to call plays. He understood if he wanted to be a head coach in the future, this was something he had to do.

Since then, the comments about Getsy from several NFL sources have been glowing. That includes Packers players. Wide receiver Davante Adams is a huge admirer of the young assistant and credits him with taking his career to the next level. Jarrett Payton of WGN TV revealed during an interview with David Montgomery that he got the chance to speak with fellow running back Aaron Jones. He, too, had nothing but great things to say.

“I talked to Packers running back Aaron Jones at the Super Bowl in L.A. We were backstage at NFL Honors and he was telling me, ‘Yo, listen. Luke Getsy is the truth. You guys are getting something special in Chicago.'”

Luke Getsy has an arduous task ahead but also a huge opportunity.

There is no question the Bears offense is a work-in-progress. It hasn’t had a top 15 finish in almost a decade. They ranked among the worst in the NFL last season. Their offensive line is far from settled, and most experts hate their array of wide receivers around Justin Fields. It isn’t the ideal situation for a young coordinator to step into, at least on paper. Getsy doesn’t seem dismayed by the challenge. He seems to be treating it more as a great opportunity.

He understands the Bears’ history at quarterback. If he can morph Fields into a competent player and make this team respectable at scoring points, other organizations will roll out the red carpet as their next head coach. Look at what happened for Adam Gase after squeezing a decent year out of Jay Cutler in 2015. Luke Getsy doesn’t fear difficulty. That is part of what makes him a great choice for the task at hand.

I’m really hoping he can create something great for the Bears. It’s been a long time since we had a credible offense.
