Cubs Trade Target Picked Up By Yankees

-

MLB switched to a single trade deadline beginning in 2019, so that’s why you’ll probably see several more minor trades before August. The Cubs top two needs are another bat and one more reliever, but as we’ve seen with the acquisition of Martin Maldonado the front office is looking for as much depth as possible.

So, it was no surprise that the Cubs had interest in speedy outfielder Terrance Gore from the Royals.

According to Patrick Mooney from The Athletic, the Cubs wanted to bring back Gore after picking him up last August.

Unfortunately, the Yankees swooped and in traded for Gore on Wednesday.

Gore has a career .609 OPS since making his MLB debut in 2014. He has less than 100 plate appearances, but his speed is exactly why contenders have gotten him in the past couple years.

Before 2019, Gore stole 27 bases in 31 attempts in the majors and went 13-for-18 with the Royals this season. That’s 82% success rate. Last year with the Cubs, Gore was perfect in six stolen base attempts and scored the only run in the Wild Card loss to the Rockies.

So, the Cubs will have to look elsewhere to find a pinch-running specialist.
