Insider Confirms Bears Interested if Derek Carr Becomes Available

-

Derek Carr set off a bit of a social media firestorm this morning when a post on Instagram was revealed. One that shows him hugging it out with Khalil Mack following their game in London last October. The timing of this was so weird. Everybody knows that the Las Vegas Raiders are surrounded by rumors that they’re thinking about a quarterback change. Conversely, the Chicago Bears have their own question marks at the position with Mitch Trubisky.

For Carr to post that with the start of the new offseason less than a month away is one hell of a coincidence. At least it was until Benjamin Allbright got involved. The respected NFL insider who primarily covers the Denver Broncos chimed in shortly after Carr’s post went viral. What he had to say in regards to it was beyond interesting. It seems the Bears are more active in hunting for QB options than they’ve let on and Carr is high on their list.

Provided he actually becomes available.

Derek Carr just makes so much sense for Bears

Everything about this idea makes sense for the Bears. Carr is 29-years old and in his prime. He’s currently under contract until 2022. That means the team would have him on a highly-affordable deal for the next three years. He’s got one of the strongest arms in the league, perfect for playing Chicago weather. The guy has never had an off-the-field issue and is widely noted for his football intelligence and leadership traits.

Is he elite? No. Then again the Bears don’t need elite. They need good enough. Carr has thrown for 4,000 yards in each of the past two seasons and posted a 100.9 passer rating in 2019. He has 18 comebacks in the 4th quarter, so he’s capable of rallying his team when needed as well. Head coach Matt Nagy is also quite familiar with him, having coaching against him twice a year from 2014 to 2017 when he was with Kansas City.

The question is simple. Would you give up a 2nd round pick for what could be 5-7 years of top 15 quarterback play? Given the Bears’ tortured history, that is a no brainer.
