Cubs reliever Carl Edwards Jr., like several of his teammates, had a 2018 season to forget. Despite a 2.60 ERA, Edwards missed all of June with an injury and was then sidelined for the Wild Card Game because of a forearm issue. In September, the slender right-hander walked 12 batters in seven innings, losing all confidence on the mound.

But it’s a new year and with it comes what looks like a new delivery for Edwards. The Cubs had their first round of bullpen sessions on Wednesday, which means we got to hear that familiar sound of mitts popping!

Fans also got to see Edwards with a new delivery, featuring a Clayton Kershaw-like pause.

Obviously it’s still early in spring training and guys are working on new things, so we don’t know yet if the new delivery style for Edwards is a permanent change.

Another interesting aspect to the otherwise normal spring training video of pitchers throwing is the use of new technology for the Cubs.

Cool.

Now, the Cubs just need to find a way to make this delivery legal.
