Ian Happ Stays Red Hot, Hits 3rd Spring Training Home Run

-

Ian Happ might be making a lot of Albert Almora Jr. fans unhappy because if he keeps this up Joe Maddon might be giving him more time than expected in center field. Happ is on fire through the first week of spring training, as he hit his third home run in Cactus League play for the Chicago Cubs on Thursday against the Colorado Rockies.

The two-run homer was his second from the right side of the plate, which is really encouraging. Happ had an awesome rookie season in 2017, but had a .789 OPS against left-handed pitching, nearly 100 points lower than against righties. So, if Happ can continues to improve against lefties, he’ll definitely force Maddon’s hand in the regular season.

Yes, it’s only four spring training games, but you have to love Happ’s approach as he enters his first full year in the majors.
