You don’t need to do much prodding with Chicago Bears fans about Jordan Love. He’s the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers. It is written into their DNA that they must hate him. It is the law of nature. Yet what seems to drive that hatred higher than normal is how convinced Packer fans are that he is on the same level as his predecessors, Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. This, despite loads of mounting evidence that such a claim is bordering on pure lunacy. While not a bad quarterback, nothing to this point suggests Love is anywhere close to that tier.
It would seem the hatred of the Packers quarterback isn’t reserved for places like Chicago, Minneapolis, and Detroit either. In fact, it’s not exclusive to his own sport. The World Cup is approaching its final stretch in various locations around North America. One of the biggest matches took place on Friday between Belgium and Spain. At one point late in the match, there was suddenly a loud chorus of boos. People looked around trying to find out why. The announcers on the broadcast then learned the truth.
It was because Love was shown on the Jumbotron. Keep in mind, this was in SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles among soccer fans.
Jordan Love is living a difficult existence.
On the one hand, he couldn’t ask for a better setup. He is the quarterback for one of the most storied franchises in NFL history. The Packers have always been known for successfully cultivating good quarterbacks. It is no different with Love, who’s had a strong ecosystem around him since he took over as the starter in 2023. However, that reputation also comes with expectations. Each of the three previous great Packers quarterbacks, Bart Starr, Brett Favre, and Aaron Rodgers, has won championships.

So far, Jordan Love has not. He hasn’t even come close. He reached the divisional round that first year before falling to the San Francisco 49ers. Since then, he’s made the playoffs as a 7th seed and was instantly eliminated both times. Across three playoff trips, he has completed barely 60% of his passes with an average 90.2 passer rating. Yet people are expected to treat him like he’s hot stuff. Maybe this helps illustrate why lots of fans don’t like him. He doesn’t pass the eye test.
The Bears have already exposed Love.
One fundamental truth about the Favre and Rodgers eras was their utter dominance of the rivalry with Chicago. They won almost every matchup for years, and it wasn’t really close. Things started out that way for Love. He won his first three games against the Bears. However, things began shifting by the end of 2024. Chicago beat Green Bay on a last-second field goal at Lambeau Field, breaking the Packers’ long winning streak against their rivals. As of now, the Bears have won three of their last four against them, including the wild card playoff game in January.
Love hasn’t played badly in that time. He has 13 touchdowns and just two interceptions against the Bears. The problem is that many times when his team needs him to slam the door shut, as Favre and Rodgers did so well, he can’t do it. For his career, Love plays his worst football in the 4th quarter with 22 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and an 87.2 passer rating. His nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions when trailing in games showcase what critics have said. He’s a good player, but overrated.
