Maybe this isn’t going to be an issue for White Sox to consider in 2024, but Jerry Reinsdorf has made it known that he’s looking for a new stadium and he might be willing to move the White Sox out of Chicago once the team’s lease expires at Guaranteed Rate Field in six years. A move to Nashville has been rumored as a possibility.
But hey, what if White Sox fans get their dream and Jerry does end up selling, but then new ownership moves the team?
During this week’s episode of the Pinwheels And Ivy Podcast, we had CHGO’s Herb Lawrence to talk about the wild week for the White Sox. Kenny Williams and Rick Hahn were fired Tuesday night, but fans on the south side couldn’t even enjoy the end of that miserable era because reports started to come out saying that Chris Getz may be next in line to take over.
Getz, who was drafted by the White Sox in 2005 and played two years with them, was hired by the team to join the front office back in 2016 as director of player development for the White Sox. In 2021, Getz was promoted to assistant GM/player development. After his playing days, Getz began his executive career with the Kansas City Royals.
USA Today’s Bob Nightegale was on 670 The Score on Wednesday and during The Parkins & Spiegel Show, the MLB reporter said that former Royals GM Dayton Moore might also play a role in the new White Sox regime.
Moore, who is currently senior advisor in the Texas Rangers front office, was the GM of the Royals from June 2006 through Sept. 2022. Moore was the person who called and hired Getz back in Kansas City in 2014.
By the way, current White Sox manager Pedro Grifol was most recently on the Royals coaching staff.
Way too many Royals connections for the White Sox to model after because although Kansas City did win the 2015 World Series and had back-to-back appearances for the title, that’s not exactly a franchise brimming with success during the past four decades.
But back to the Nashville White Royals…would White Sox fans still follow the team if Jerry moved them out of Chicago, out of Illinois? We asked Herb and he’s ready to become a Cubs fan just to spite Reinsdorf.
