White Sox Will Be Without One Of Their Big Sluggers vs. Cubs

-

The White Sox enter the final three days of the regular season reeling after losing six of their last seven games that included a four-game sweep against the Indians. They’ll host the last three games of the season against the Cubs, but the White Sox are going to be without left fielder Eloy Jimenez.

Before the series opener Friday night, White Sox manager Rick Renteria said Jimenez was day-to-day because of a mid-foot sprain. He’ll receive treatment, but the team expects him to miss the weekend series. Hopefully, no more time after that.

The injury stems from a seventh-inning slide at home plate Thursday night. Jimenez was pulled from the game afterward.

“Right now we’re just straight up day to day,” manager Rick Renteria said. “There is some inflammation in there we want to calm down. We’ll know more where we’re at in a few days after getting it treated.”
Whether the injury prevents Jimenez from participating in the postseason isn’t known.

Not only has Jimenez killed the Cubs in his career, slashing .320/.414/.760 with three homers in seven games, he’s also established himself as a good all-around hitter in 2020, posting an overall slash line of .296/.332/.559, with 14 homers.

The White Sox will now go with Adam Engel in left field against the Cubs.

The White Sox are currently one game behind the Twins in the AL Central division.
