The White Sox are beating up on the Tigers as they should, but they’ll be without rookie center fielder Luis Robert Wednesday night.
The right-handed hitter left after the top of the seventh inning during Tuesday night’s game, as he hurt his right hand on a diving catch attempt in center field.
Robert won’t be the only regular sitting out tonight’s game, as switch-hitting catcher Yasmani Grandal will miss his second straight game. Grandal exited early during Monday’s game against the Tigers because of back stiffness.
Adam Engel will start in center field and Zack Collins gets a rare start behind the plate for Dane Dunning, who is making his MLB debut for the White Sox.
Engel is back after he was placed on the injured list because he had contact with someone (outside the team) who had COVID-19. It was procedural, but Engel never tested positive himself and is now good to go.
Despite Robert’s absence from today’s lineup, White Sox manager Rick Renteria said the rookie should be back Thursday.
