White Sox Release Infielder Brett Lawrie

-

The Chicago White Sox have announced that they have released infielder Brett Lawrie. The 27-year-old was acquired by trade from the Oakland Athletics before the 2016 season.

Lawrie only played in 94 games for the White Sox last year, missing time because of injury.

Lawrie had a slash line of .248/.310/.413 with 12 home runs last season.

Once he is officially let go, it should open the door for Yoan Moncada to occupy second base on a full-time basis when he gets called up.

You could always count on one thing when it came to Lawrie and that was his energy level. It was always at 1 million percent. One guy who might be happy he’s gone is Jose Abreu.

Again, always fired up.

The White Sox traded lefty Zack Erwin and righty J.B. Wendelken to the A’s for Lawrie in December 2015.
