White Sox Prospects Are Quietly Tearing It Up In Kannapolis

-

Despite the White Sox having one of the worst records in the league again in 2025, they look like a much better baseball team compared to last year, as there have been plenty of close games that could have gone either way.

This leads fans to look into the minor leagues for success stories of players who may be joining the team in Chicago when they are in their window for contention. We take a look at the Low-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, and see who has been playing well to start the season, as these players could be on the move to Winston-Salem sooner rather than later.

Caleb Bonemer

The first player that has been absolutely lighting up Low-A Kannapolis is Caleb Bonemer, the White Sox second round pick from last year. 2025 is Bonemer’s first taste of minor league baseball and he doesn’t look overmatched in the slightest.

So far through 41 games, Bonemer is hitting .297 with an amazing .428 OBP and a .931 OPS. On top of that, he has added four homeruns, 28 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases.

Bonemer has looked like an absolutle steal in the second round, as he will likely creep on to many top-100 prospect lists when they update at the midseason mark.

Since Bonemer is only 19, it is likely that he will spend most of the year with the Cannon Ballers. However, if he continues to dominate Low-A, there could be a promotion to High-A Winston-Salem towards the end of the year.

Javier Mogollon

The next hitter that has performed well for the Cannon Ballers is Javier Mogollon, a 19 year old infielder from Venezuela. This is also Mogollon’s first minor league action, as he has only played in the Dominican Summer league and the Arizona Complex league in his young career.

Mogollon has had a smooth transition to Low-A baseball, as he is hitting .274 with a fantastic .430 OBP and a .935 OPS. He also has added three homeruns, 15 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases in just 28 games.

You could not have asked for a much better start to a minor league career for Mogollon, and if he keeps this up he will definitely rise up the White Sox top-30 prospect list. Additionally, I would not be surprised if he snuck onto a few top-100 lists during the midseason update.

Jack Young

The next player that has been impressive for the Cannon Ballers is another 2024 draft pick, pitcher Jack Young, who they selected in the 9th round.

Like Bonemer, this is also Young’s first minor league action and he has been absolutely dominant. Through 23 innings out of the Kannapolis ‘pen, Young has a .39 ERA with 23 strikeouts and three saves.

This is a great start to Young’s minor league career and he should expect to be promoted to Winston-Salem very shortly, as he is 23 and played a few years of college baseball. If Young keeps it up at each level he pitches at, don’t be surprised to see him in Chicago sooner rather than later, as the White Sox are in desperate need of relief pitching and college arms tend to move quickly through the minors.

The Cannon Ballers have had a very solid season and there are some very talented players that will soon be promoted, but it is good to see that a lot of younger prospects are having success with the team.
