White Sox Place Yoan Moncada On DL, Call Up Jose Rondon From Triple-A

-

Throughout the past week, White Sox second baseman Yoan Moncada has been dealing with a variety of nagging injuries. The most serious one is involving his hamstring. After sitting out Thursday’s contest against the Twins, Moncada attempted to play in last nights game, only to be pulled later on.

It seems the White Sox are finally going to give him the time he needs to heal fully by placing him on the 10-day DL. As a corresponding roster move, the team has called up infielder Jose Rondon from Triple-A Charlotte. The 22 year old has had a very solid season for the Knights up to this point, hitting .286 with a .349 OBP.

Putting Moncada on the DL was absolutely the right move. It is better to get him fully healthy opposed to having him risk a more significant injury later on. Be thankful it’s just a 10-day stint as opposed to a 60-day one. Furthermore, Rondon will be able to showcase some of his talent and see what he can bring to the table.

It sucks that Moncada has to miss time right when he was finally clicking at a high level, but at the end of the day, this is the correct decision. Let’s hope he can bounce back in a week and a half and continue punishing baseballs on a regular basis.
