White Sox Make Several Roster Moves, Call Up Pitching Prospect

-

White Sox fans will finally be able to see pitching prospect Dane Dunning make his MLB debut, as he’s been called up to start tonight’s game against the Tigers.

Dunning, 25, missed the final two months of the 2018 season with an elbow injury and then missed all of last year after having Tommy John surgery in March. Dunning, who was picked in the first round of the 2016 draft by the Nationals, has been outstanding in the minors.

In three minor league seasons, Dunning has a 2.74 ERA in 266 innings. Before his elbow injury in 2018, Dunning posted a 2.71 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 86.1 innings across Single and Double-A.

The White Sox also reactivated Adam Engel, as he missed a few days because of COVID-19 protocols. Engel never tested positive for the coronavirus, but was in contact with someone who did.

The White Sox sent reliever José Ruiz to Schaumburg and DFA’d infielder Cheslor Cuthbert to make room for Dunning and Engel.

Engel is in Wednesday night’s lineup, filling in for Luis Robert. The White Sox rookie hurt his right hand in the seventh inning of Tuesday’s game, when he attempted to make a diving catch.

The White Sox have won three games in a row heading into tonight’s action.
