The White Sox have now lost four of their last five games after losing 5-3 Wednesday night on a 10th-inning, walk-off home run by José Ramírez.
That came right after the White Sox had taken a 3-1 lead in the top of the 10th inning thanks to run-scoring hits by Adam Engel and Nick Madrigal.
However, the White Sox didn’t have closer Alex Colomé available to protect the lead and instead Matt Foster and ultimately José Ruiz were used in the 10th.

It seemed like a no-brainer that Colomé would go back out to pitch the 10th after only needing six pitches to retire the side in the ninth. Well, it turns out the right-hander had a back issue and that’s the reason he didn’t return.

So, I get White Sox fans are pissed off about the loss and the current skid the team is on, but there are lots of “that’s a lie” comments being made about Rick Renteria’s explanation.
That’s a tad bit over the top from those fans because it’s not like Renteria hasn’t kept Colomé in to pitch multiple innings several times already this season. So yeah, there was something wrong with Colomé if he wasn’t able to come back and pitch in the 10th.
With that being said, you can debate whether or not the White Sox should have left the game in the arm of José Ruiz against one of the hottest hitters in baseball in Ramírez.
