White Sox Legend Gio Gonzalez Agrees To Return To Chicago!

-

Maybe the 3rd time is the charm?

That seems to be what Rick Hahn is hoping for. Today the White Sox inked Gio Gonzalez to a deal. What’s funny is that the White Sox have actually had Gonzalez twice before, but never actually pitched for the team.

This is a solid move for a veteran 5th starter. The only problem is that you can argue that he would be the number 2 starter today. More moves definitely need to be made to shore up the staff (Keuchel or Ryu). If they sign one of those 2, the rotation actually looks pretty solid.

Last year, Gonzalez pitched for Milwaukee and put up a very respectable 3.50 ERA in 19 games (17 starts). He isn’t that far from a stellar 2017 season with Washington in which he put up a 2.96 ERA and a 3.8 WAR.

We already knew the White Sox needed 2 starters. One being a front end guy, the other being a back end guy. 1 down, 1 to go. If Gonzalez is the only pitcher they add, then it’ll be okay to be pissed. But as of now, it’s a solid move that should hopefully mean no more Dylan Covey starts in 2020.
