White Sox DFA Nicky Delmonico After Trade With Pirates

-

White Sox fans were scratching their head at first after seeing the trade for outfielder Jarrod Dyson from the Pirates, but it certainly improves the overall roster depth on the south side.

The White Sox acquired Dyson in exchange for international free agent money Friday morning.

Obviously it’s not a major move by the White Sox, but it does allow them to fully maximize their defense late in games. Even at 36-years-old, Dyson still plays solid in the outfield and you can easily envision manager Rick Renteria sending out Dyson, Luis Robert and Adam Engel to close out games defensively.

Dyson also gives the White Sox another speedy runner to come off the bench either to steal a base or maybe even use in extra innings, where teams begin the inning with a runner at second base.

To make room on the 40-man and the active 28-man roster the White Sox made a pair of corresponding moves, sending rookie outfielder Luis Gonzalez back to Schaumburg and DFA’ing Nicky Delmonico.

So, the White Sox basically swapped their inexperienced outfield depth in Gonzalez with the veteran Dyson. Again, not a flashy move but the team did improve today even if it’s only by a little.
