Another player from last offseason’s Garrett Crochet trade is joining the White Sox roster. Chase Ford of Milb Central has reported that right-handed pitcher Wikelman González is being called up to the major leagues for the first time, further adding to the youth movement in the White Sox bullpen.
González’s Player Profile
González, 23, was widely considered the fourth piece in the return for Garrett Crochet last offseason after Braden Montgomery, Kyle Teel, and Chase Meidroth. González currently ranks at the #15 prospect in the White Sox organization per MLB.com. After pitching in a few games with the Double-A Birmingham Barons, he was promoted to the Triple-A Charlotte Knights at the beginning of May.
Strong Triple-A Stint
Despite being overlooked somewhat, he has had a strong 2025 season thus far. González has pitched exclusively as a reliever in Triple-A and has put up a strong 2.75 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 8.2 K/9 in 19.2 innings over 12 appearances. Walks have been his most significant issue, as he has issued 15 free passes over that span. Opposing Triple-A batters are hitting just .138 against him, though, so he has done a good job limiting the damage. González features a fastball that can reach up to 99 MPH, as well as a slider, curveball, and changeup as part of his arsenal.
Youth Movement In White Sox Bullpen
The corresponding move for González’s arrival has not been announced, but the White Sox seem intent on infusing some youth into their bullpen. Grant Taylor was just called up last week, and reports are that Jake Palisch, a left-hander with the Double-A Birmingham Barons, is also coming to Chicago. Adisyn Coffey, Jairo Iriarte, and Peyton Pallette are other relievers in the minor leagues who could warrant consideration for a call-up soon.
The future is now for the White Sox. The team’s record still isn’t where fans want it to be, but the organization is slowly infusing the big league roster with players who could be part of the next core. Wikelman González falls into that category and will be the 52nd different player to appear in a game for the team this season.
