MLB Insider Reveals Two Notable White Sox Trade Chips

-

With the trade deadline just a few months away and the team in selling mode, the White Sox must assess their roster to determine who should go ahead of the July 31st deadline. Luis Robert Jr. has been the team’s most frequently talked about trade chip to this point. However, Mark Feinsand, a Senior National Reporter for MLB.com and MLB Network, believes two other notable White Sox players could attract attention on the market.

Davis Martin

After missing all of 2023 and most of 2024 because of Tommy John surgery, Davis Martin has had a strong bounce-back 2025 campaign. The 28-year-old right-hander has a respectable 3.49 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 4.03 FIP, 1.0 bWAR, and 0.8 fWAR over 56.2 innings this season. While his underlying metrics and strikeout numbers leave something to be desired, Martin is having the best season of his MLB career thus far.

Given that he is only 28 and has over five seasons of affordable control remaining, Martin will undoubtedly generate interest at the deadline. Virtually any contending team could use another cost-controlled pitcher who has had success starting games at the MLB level. Feinsand said it “wouldn’t be a shock” to see Martin get moved. Given the struggles of Luis Robert Jr. this season, Martin might be the team’s most valuable trade chip.

Cam Booser

Feinsand also mentioned left-handed reliever Cam Booser as a potential trade chip. The 33-year-old’s numbers look pedestrian on the surface. He has just a 5.71 ERA, 5.85 FIP, and 1.39 WHIP over 21 games. However, the raw stats don’t show the whole story. Booser has not allowed a run in 15 of 21 appearances on the season. He has also struck out well over a batter per inning. His sweeper in particular grades out as a quality pitch per Baseball Savant.

Booser also has a lot of team control. Like Martin, he is not scheduled to reach free agency until after the 2030 season. Whichever team acquires him will have him for the long haul. Feinsand described Booser as a “complementary piece” in a contender’s bullpen, which is likely an accurate assessment. Booser doesn’t have much of an MLB track record, but playoff teams could always use left-handed relievers who can generate whiffs and strikeouts. Left-handed batters have hit just .130 off Booser this season. He is an intriguing bullpen arm for situational matchups in the playoffs.

Other White Sox Trade Chips

Several rental players on the White Sox roster could also be moved, per Feinsand. Michael A. Taylor, Austin Slater, Andrew Vaughn, Mike Tauchman, Josh Rojas, and Bryse Wilson all fall into this category. While none of these players will likely have much trade value, the White Sox could look to flip these veterans for lottery ticket prospects.

By this point in the rebuild, the White Sox have traded away most of their valuable players. Still, they could be one of the more active sellers in this year’s market. Accumulating more young talent is paramount for the future. Chris Getz’s phone will likely get a lot of use over the next few months.

I’d keep Martin. I’m tired of seeing our good pitchers end up with other teams. Given our shoddy track record developing players, e.g. Vaughn, prospects are a crap shoot. On the other hand, I would move Booser in a heartbeat
