Great News For The White Sox Starting Rotation

-

It could have been really miserable Wednesday night after the White Sox had already blown a 4-0 lead and lost the front end of a double header against the Orioles. In the series finale the White Sox walked off with a 7-6 win, coming from behind in the ninth inning, when Yonder Alonso hit a game-winning, two-run single with two outs.

That gave the White Sox a series win and it was their fourth victory in five games. Now, even more good news.

Weather permitting, right-hander Lucas Giolito will start on Thursday, when the White Sox begin a four-game series at home against the Red Sox.

Giolito is 2-1 with a 5.30 ERA in four starts this season. He last pitched against the Royals on April 17, when he struck out five and didn’t allow a hit in 2.2 innings. He left that game with a hamstring injury, which he’s been rehabbing for the past two weeks.

Giolito threw 50 pitches in a bullpen session on Monday. So, he’s more than ready to come back to the rotation.

It’ll be a good test for Giolito, as the Red Sox come to Chicago fresh off a sweep of the A’s. Boston outscored Oakland 21-8 in their three-game series. The Red Sox have won 8 of 12 games after starting the season 6-13.

While Giolito returning to the rotation is good news the rain out against the Orioles Tuesday and subsequent double header on Wednesday means the White Sox don’t have a scheduled starter for Sunday’s game.

White Sox manager Rick Renteria said it might just be a bullpen day for them in the series finale.

As much as White Sox fans would love to see Dylan Cease make a spot start, they’re probably going to get Dylan Covey and Carson Fulmer instead.

Reynaldo López and Manny Bañuelos are scheduled to start against the Red Sox after Giolito returns to the mound Thursday.
