Bulls & White Sox Join Forces For New City Connect Jersey

-

The White Sox unveiled their new Nike City Connect Series uniforms on Monday, marking a unique collaboration between two Chicago sports powerhouses. In a first for Major League Baseball, the White Sox teamed up with the Chicago Bulls—both owned by Jerry Reinsdorf—to design a uniform that honors the legacy of both franchises.

The White Sox already boast one of the most popular City Connect uniforms in MLB with their bold “Southside” design. That uniform will remain in the team’s rotation alongside their traditional white pinstripes, black alternates, and grey road jerseys. Under MLB rules, teams can include up to four standard uniforms plus one MLB-approved alternate, which is where the new City Connect jersey fits in.

According to White Sox Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer Brooks Boyer, one of the biggest challenges was creating a design that could live up to the original Southside edition. To elevate the concept, the team decided to partner with the Bulls, making the White Sox the first MLB franchise to collaborate with an NBA team on a uniform.

Boyer said the shared history of the two franchises in Chicago helped shape the new design. The red jersey with black pinstripes and sleeves features “Chicago” across the chest in bold black lettering—a nod to both teams. The neckline is detailed with the years of the White Sox’s three World Series championships (1906, 1917, and 2005) in white, and the Bulls’ six titles (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998) in red.

For the first time, an MLB team will also have two interchangeable on-field caps to pair with the jersey. The first cap, dubbed the “BRED” cap, is black with a red bill. The second features red with black pinstripes and a black bill. Both hats showcase a retro-style winged White Sox logo with “Chicago” subtly inscribed in white.

Boyer explained that Nike initially presented two cap options, and the team found both so compelling that Nike decided to approve the use of both for game days.

The White Sox will debut the new City Connect uniforms on May 2 against the Astros. The team plans to wear them during every Friday home game for the rest of the season.
