So, even on a day when Kris Bryant and Willson Contreras return to the Cubs lineup and fans are still glowing about Nico Hoerner’s MLB debut there just has to be something negative.
The Cubs began their current eight-game road trip by placing closer Craig Kimbrel on the 10-day injured list, hoping he’d return Thursday in San Diego. It’s his second stint on the IL, but unlike the first trip this time Kimbrel has an issue in his throwing elbow.
The Cubs are saying that Kimbrel is progressing well, but the right-hander won’t be returning on Thursday, when he’s eligible to come back from the injured list.
