Finally, the Cubs made a trade! *checks Twitter* Oh…it’s for international bonus money. OK, cool.
On Friday, the Orioles announced the minor trade of right-handed pitcher Pedro Araujo to Baltimore in exchange for $750,000 in international bonus money going to the Cubs.
Orioles and Cubs work out minor trade. Baltimore sends Chicago $750,000 in international bonus money for right to keep RHP Pedro Araujo (a 2017 Rule 5 pick recently DFA’d).

You’ll be forgiven if you forgot about Araujo, a 2017 Rule 5 pick, after he stuck with the Orioles last year. But Araujo didn’t accrue enough time to be Orioles property, but upon his return (which cost Cubs 50K), they sold him for Int’l $. https://t.co/Ba7Q4KjV79

Araujo, 25, from the Dominican Republic began his playing career in 2011, after the Cubs signed him. He was in the Dominican Summer League from 2011-14, played in Arizona for 10 games in 2014 as well and then appeared in Single-A in 2015. He had mixed results, but overall put up decent numbers in the minor leagues.
The righty pitched 341.2 innings and recorded a 2.63 ERA with 394 strikeouts before the Orioles picked him up. Araujo struggled in the majors, posting a 7.71 ERA in 28 innings last year and in just one appearance in 2019, he gave up two runs on a homer.
After this trade, he was sent back to the minors.
In a roundabout way, RHP Pedro Araujo is back with #Orioles shortly after being DFA'd with ~10 days left of Rule 5 eligibility .
Araujo cleared waivers, was returned to the Cubs. Then acquired from CHC in exchange for international bonus pool money. He was sent to Double-A.
