All right, so let’s start with Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo. He was on ESPN 1000 Wednesday and while talking with David Kaplan and Kyle Long, Rizzo admitted that he’s been frustrated seeing all the Kris Bryant trade rumors.

Bryant is still under team control for two more seasons, but he’s been in trade rumors all offseason long. And it’s easy to see why Rizzo is kind of fed up. He obviously wants to compete for a title and all of a sudden your team is out there trying to trade away one of your best players for prospects.

Rizzo was also asked about the Cubs maybe being underrated in 2020, but he was pretty honest saying that after missing the postseason last year what exactly have the Cubs earned and how much credit do they really deserve heading into this season? Basically, you can’t really give the Cubs the benefit of the doubt, as they’ve made minimal changes to the big league roster this winter and have a lot of question marks in their pitching staff.

You can listen to that entire Rizzo conversation here.

Speaking of Kris Bryant, he was at an event in Las Vegas Thursday and was asked about his grievance case. However, he didn’t want to answer questions in his hometown out of respect to the Chicago media, as Bryant hasn’t had a chance to speak with Cubs beat writers. He’ll do that next week when spring training begins in Mesa.

You can have whatever opinion you want on Bryant as a baseball player and how great or not great you think he is, but there’s no doubt that he’s just one of the nicest dudes in the game.

I mean, this is spot on.

Oh and one quick thing on Rizzo, the offseason hasn’t all been frustrating for him. Earlier this week Rizzo’s high school in Florida named its baseball field after him.

And if you like projections, over at FanGraphs it was the Cubs’s turn for the ZiPS projections.

Yup, the starting rotation is kinda scary and not in a good way. Pretty much tells the story we’ve seen since last offseason. Yeah, the Cubs have lots of talent, but the roster is top heavy with a big depth issue if there’s an injury to one of the core players.
