The Giants are looking for a GM and one of the candidates for their open position has been identified as Cubs assistant GM Scott Harris.
Harris spent five seasons as the director of baseball operations for the Cubs, first hired when he was 25-year-old. Then, before the 2018 season, the Cubs promoted him to assistant GM.
Harris has also worked with the Nationals and Reds, and served as MLB’s minor league operations coordinator before joining the Cubs.
In recent years, the Cubs have already lost several key members of their front office. After 2018, Shiraz Rehman left to become the Rangers assistant GM. Jared Porter went to Arizona to become the Diamondbacks vice president and assistant GM, while Jason Parks also went to the Diamondbacks after 2017 as their new director of pro scouting.
You don’t want to root against a guy getting a promotion, but I guess you can always have mixed feelings about losing people from your front office. We’ll see if Harris gets the gig out in San Francisco.
