PETE CROW-ARMSTRONG JUST SAVED THE 2026 CHICAGO CUBS SEASON

-

ARE YOU KIDDING ME????????

Down 6-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, the Chicago Cubs staged their most important comeback win of the 2026 season as Pete Crow-Armstrong capped off a four-run rally by hitting a walk-off single against the Athletics.

The Cubs were dead folks. Shōta Imanaga gave up four home runs, including an inside-the-park home run that landed behind Crow-Armstrong’s head in the sixth inning. Two more homers put the Athletics up 6-1, but then Ian Happ hit a massive two-run homer in the seventh.

The bullpen shut down the Athletics and in the ninth inning the Cubs offense finally came alive all at once. A MIchael Busch double, then another double by Ian Happ was followed with a single by Nico Hoerner.

The Cubs were down to their final out after Hoerner was thrown out trying to steal second base, but Moises Ballesteros reached on an infield single that made it 6-5.

Seiya Suzuki hit for Pedro Ramirez and singled, then Dansby Swanson, one of the worst hitters with runners in scoring position this season, finally delivered when the Cubs were on the verge of losing their ninth straight home game.

Unreal. The Cubs were all-time bad vibes tonight until Happ finally gave them a spark with a 446-foot nuke to right field. The switch-hitter is on one of his hot streaks, dating back to last week against the Pittsburgh Pirates, as Happ has hit four home runs and five doubles in the past eight games.

Meanwhile, Crow-Armstrong has broken out in the past couple of weeks, and he homered again on Thursday to give the Cubs their first run of the game against the Athletics before being the hero in the ninth.

You cannot understate just how big a win this was for the Cubs. It would have been a real punch to the gut for this team, but they showed some fight. You certainly hope they can carry the momentum this weekend. Edward Cabrera is expected to be back off the injured list Friday to start against the San Francisco Giants.

Still with the win, the Cubs have gone four weeks without winning a series, but snapping an eight-game losing streak in this style has to feel great for these guys.
