The Chicago Cubs acquired outfielder Tyrone Taylor at the trade deadline, getting him in the deal that was headlined by Clay Holmes from the New York Mets. It was a sneaky addition, as Taylor has crushed left-handed pitchers in 2026, and he’s already made some headlines. Not only has Taylor become an instant fan-favorite for simply not being Ian Happ and becoming his replacement in left field against LHP, but he has also won over Cubs fans with his defense and maybe an unintentional, but nevertheless very pointed, comment about the Milwaukee Brewers.
Prior to his Cubs debut earlier this week against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Wrigley Field, Taylor met with the Chicago media. The 32-year-old, who made his MLB debut in 2019 and played the first five seasons of his career with the Brewers, was asked about the NL Central rivalry, and oh boy, did this have to sting for Brewers fans.
“It was fun. The games were fun. I remember it being like away games when I was at home in Milwaukee because there would be so many Cubs fans, so it’s definitely cool to be on this side.”

That’s been the long-running joke for decades, and even former Brewers players can’t hide the fact that Cubs fans dominate the support and have always packed the stadium in Milwaukee.

Taylor will get to experience the rivalry for the first time on the Cubs in late August, when the Brewers head to Wrigley Field for a huge four-game series. The top two teams in the NL Central will then play three more games in Milwaukee the following week, making it seven head-to-head matchups in 10 days.
Cubs fans are certainly hoping that Taylor can help on the margins, something the Brewers have excelled at for the past decade. Taylor was part of two division-winning teams in Milwaukee, in 2021 and 2023.
