It’s been a frustrating year for almost everyone and the 2020 MLB season has been especially one to forget for Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant. On Monday night, Bryant suffered another injury that has manager David Ross worried.

In his first and only at-bat against JT Brubaker, Bryant winced in pain after a swing and miss on a sinker inside. After taking a ball to even the count at 1-1, Ross and a member of the medical staff came out to chat with Bryant, who did stay in to finish the plate appearance and played the bottom of the second inning on defense.

However, in the third inning Bryant didn’t come back out to third, as he was replaced by David Bote. The Cubs said Bryant exited because of an oblique injury.

Given the nature of oblique injuries, Ross admitted: “I’m worried.”
“It was kind of positive that he could still feel like he could do a little bit,” Ross said. “But another at-bat and something serious happens, and then he’s done for the season. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow, but I’m trying to hold out hope.”

If you recall to this past weekend, the Cubs placed reliever Rowan Wick on the 10-day injured list because of an oblique injury, and he won’t be returning in 2020.

So, Ross and the Cubs are hopeful that Bryant’s injury isn’t as serious, but with less than a week until the playoffs begin this definitely feels like bad news for KB.

There’s no way to put this other than this sucks.

Bryant started off the season in a bad slump and right when it looked like was getting back in a groove in August he injured his left wrist and finger attempting a diving catch playing left field in Cleveland. He played through that injury before he was finally shut down and then came back in September, but in three weeks it was painfully obvious that Bryant wasn’t himself.

As much shit as Bryant has gotten from a portion of Cubs fans, they seem to forget that just last year he was the team’s most valuable player and had a .903 OPS despite being slowed down with a knee injury for about six weeks. Oh and played through that knee injury too.

That was also after playing through a severe shoulder injury for most of 2018.

And now several different things have popped up throughout 2020, from a back issue, to getting nailed on the elbow, the hand injury and now the oblique. It’s hard not to feel bad for Bryant and Ross makes it pretty clear what he thinks of people slamming Bryant for the injuries.

Don’t be a bad person. Or you know, an asshole.
