After playing a couple games with the Iowa Cubs at Triple-A over the weekend, the Cubs are reportedly going to add outfielder Carlos González to their 25-man roster.

The Cubs signed González to a minor-league deal last week after he was cut by Cleveland.

After going hitless in four at-bats Saturday, González went 2-for-4 on Sunday, hitting a solo home run to go along with a single.

The three-time All-Star only played 30 games for Cleveland before he was released. González struggled, slashing .210/.282/.276, in 105 at-bats.

González has always been a much better hitter at Coors Field, where he played his home games from 2009-18.

No matter what it’s a low-risk move for the Cubs. They have several weeks to see if the left-handed hitter can contribute and if not they can see who’s available in the trade market.

Best case scenario is something Cubs fans saw in 2008. Remember when Jim Edmonds was pretty damn great with the Cubs?!?

After 26 games with the Padres, they released Edmonds in early May 2008. The Cubs scooped him up and he went on to hit 19 home runs, slash .256/.369/.568, in 250 at-bats.

Just an unbelievable season for Edmonds after he had a .498 OPS with San Diego to start the year in 90 at-bats.

Edmonds started 75 games in center field.

If, big if, González can bounce back he could get plenty of starts in the corner outfield spots in the final four months of the season.

Hopefully this is a Jim Edmonds part 2.

And it’s officially announced by the Cubs.
