A lot of us Cubs fans have been hard on Jason Heyward and for the most part it’s been deserved, as his performance at the plate has ranged from barely average to just awful since 2016. Yet, you can’t ignore the times when he’s been great and boy does Saturday’s game against the Brewers count as a time Heyward was great.
Heyward hit two home runs against the Brewers, including a two-run homer in the second inning that answered a Lorenzo Cain leadoff bomb in the first inning.

Then, after Kyle Ryan and Allen Webster combined to give up three earned runs, Heyward once again responded with another homer.

Not just three home runs in the last two games, that made it three home runs in his last six at-bats for Heyward against the Brewers.
Heyward hit 8 HRs in 440 ABs last year. He has 3 HRs in the last 6 ABs here in this series.

Heyward also walked in the eighth inning, making it two for the game. He also had two stolen bases. Guess what, no player in Cubs history has ever hit two home runs, walked twice and stolen two bases in a game.
Per Play Index, Jason Heyward is the first Cubs player on record with 2 walks, 2 steals and 2 homers in a game.

He’s only the third player in MLB history to accomplish the feat.
There have only been two other such performances on record in MLB since 1908:
Ender Inciarte: 8/17/2017
Howard Johnson: 7/11/1987— Jordan Bastian (@MLBastian) April 7, 2019
And how about the bottom of the Cubs lineup on Saturday. Unreal production with Victor Caratini having a great night too.

7 and 8 hole for the Cubs are a combined 6-for-6 with three home runs, four walks, six RBI and five runs scored. Cubs lead it 14-5 after a seven-spot in the eighth.

The last time the Cubs had 2 players reach 5 times in a game was May 15, 2015 vs the Pirates; Starlin Castro and Jorge Soler. Caratini and Heyward tonight. Who had that combo accomplishing it???

As bad as the bullpen was once again(!) the offense came through as it has almost every game this year and finally broke the team’s six-game losing streak, beating the Brewers 14-8.
