Let me begin by saying that without a minor league season and almost no coverage from the alternate training site in South Bend, we have little to no clue how guys are doing or even if they’re healthy or whatever.
But there has to be someone, anyone, better than Rex Brothers. And if there’s not, then the Cubs are in even bigger trouble pitching wise in the future than we thought. I don’t think that’s the case, so I’m sitting here just laughing at another weird roster decision.
For the past week we’ve been wondering if Brailyn Marquez would actually be called up and this seemed like the perfect time to do it, as you can’t really trust Jon Lester to pitch well or deep into games anymore.
We knew Adbert Alzolay was going to be sent down after his start Thursday night and the Cubs seriously decided the best option was to bring back Rex fucking Brothers.
This is the same Rex Brothers who hasn’t been good since 2013.
And for a second forget about Brailyn Marquez. He’s still young, maybe the Cubs don’t think he’s ready quite yet. How about Justin Steele, the 25-year-old lefty who the team called up earlier in the year and then didn’t use him before sending him right back to South Bend.
Or again, literally anyone other than Rex Brothers. What the hell?
