The Chicago Cubs drafted shortstop Nico Hoerner with the 24th overall pick Monday night and I have no clue if he’s going to be good or not because I’ve seen zero games that he’s played in, but holy crap was this highlight awesome.
Obviously when a highlight is shared it has to be pretty special, but this play by Hoerner as a member of the Stanford baseball team was flat out ridiculous.
Ready for this, @Cubs? @nico_hoerner 😳 #GoStanford pic.twitter.com/NzAXEGhiN9

Oh yeah, that got your attention.
It kind of reminded me of the following highlight. I was watching some random MLB videos a month ago and stumbled upon this gem from Greg Maddux.

Hoerner is 21-years-old and can obviously play the middle of the infield. He wasn’t much of a power hitter, going deep twice this season, but he did record 23 doubles and triples combined, while also stealing 15 bases.
So, not exactly the elite bat the Cubs drafted from 2013-15, remember Kris Bryant, Kyle Schwarber and Ian Happ? But hey, all the best of luck to Nico Hoerner.
On the first day of the draft, the Cubs took the following players.
- 24th overall: Nico Hoerner SS (Stanford)
- 62nd overall: Brennan Davis OF (Arizona High School)
- 77th overall: Cole Roederer OF (Cal High School)
- 78th overall: Paul Richan RHP (San Diego)
