Lester’s inability to throw to first base has taken on somewhat of a “mythical” personality. There was a Christmas song created to honor his inability to throw to first, he’s even joked about his throws with the media, and I myself gave him an early 33rd birthday present when I presented his three funniest throws to first base.

It’s actually pretty impressive when you step back and think about it. Everybody in the ball park knows good and well he can’t throw to first and don’t even think about him trying to pick a runner off because that will never happen. Even with those two HUGE aspects out of his game, he still finished last season 19-5 with a 2.44 ERA and was a god damn Cy Young finalist.

Following the lead of teammate Jason Heyward, who’s attempting to fix a HUGE aspect of his own game, Lester has been fielding and throwing balls to first base during the first few days of Spring Training.

I mean, it’s not the prettiest throw I’ve ever seen but when you compare it to some of his other “attempts” from the past two seasons, I’m sure he’s pretty happy with it.

Someone else who is happy with Lester’s new found skill?

Anthony Rizzo.
