Cubs Will Honor Ryne Sandberg with Jersey Patch

-

The Chicago Cubs will honor Ryne Sandberg with a jersey patch for the remainder of the 2025 season after the Hall of Fame baseball player passed away at the age of 65. Sandberg, who began his MLB career with the Philadelphia Phillies, was traded to the Cubs prior to the 1982 season. The second baseman played the rest of his career with Chicago, where he became a beloved figure beyond Wrigley Field.

In 2024, Sandberg announced that he began treatment for metastatic prostate cancer. He was declared cancer-free in August 2024, but on December 10, 2024, Sandberg announced that the cancer had returned and spread to other organs.

On July 28, 2025, the Cubs announced that Sandberg passed away at the age of 65.
