The Cubs have made a trade with the Rays, adding right-handed hitter José Martínez.
The 32-year-old went to Tampa Bay this past offseason in a trade with St. Louis. Martínez, who will slot into the DH role with the Cubs, has a career .815 OPS, with a solid slash line of .294/.361/.455, in 422 games.
The major reason the Cubs acquired Martínez is because they desperately needed someone to mash against lefties and he’s done exactly that in his career. Martínez has a .319/.392/.554, slash line in his career against left-handed pitching.
