Cubs Release A Pair Of Veteran Relievers

-

Before Thursday’s series finale against the Pirates, the Cubs made a few roster moves.

So much for the signing of A.J. Ramos, as the former Marlins and Mets closer was released just a few days after he inked a minor league deal with the Cubs. Fellow right-hander Cody Allen was also cut from the Cubs’ alternate training site in South Bend.

Allen, who was once the shutdown closer for the Indians, signed with the Cubs in late July. So, obviously Ramos and Allen weren’t showing enough or any positive signs to even be considered as options in September out of the bullpen.

Backup catcher Josh Phegley and outfielder Ian Miller cleared waivers after being DFA’d and they took the roster spots in the Cubs’ 60-man player pool after the release of Ramos and Allen.
