Cubs Place Tyler Chatwood On Injured List, Call Up Right-Handed Pitcher

-

Well, the Cubs were already going to have a tough week with their starting rotation, as they have to play five games in three days against the Cardinals. Now, it’s going to be even more difficult after placing Tyler Chatwood on the 10-day injured list.

Chatwood was scratched from his start Friday night against the Brewers and the Cubs were hoping he’d get better by the weekend. However, Chatwood’s tight back is still a problem.

The Cubs have called up right-handed pitcher Jason Adam from the team’s training site in South Bend. To make room for Adam on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Jharel Cotton has been DFA’d.

The Cubs have a doubleheader against the Cardinals on Monday and Wednesday.

Adam, 29, has a 4.83 ERA in 54 innings in the majors. In 2019, he appeared in 23 games for the Blue Jays and was pretty good, posting a 2.91 ERA in 21.2 innings.

So, the Cubs are going to need long outings from Jon Lester today and Kyle Hendricks on Monday, as the Cubs are most likely going with a bullpen game for the second game of the doubleheader Monday.

Doubleheaders this season are seven innings long.
