Cubs No. 5 prospect Cole Roederer was a triple shy of the cycle when he stepped up to the plate in the ninth inning of Tuesday’s game with South Bend. Well, you read the headline, so you know what happened next.

On a 0-2 pitch, the 19-year-old smashed a ball off the left-field wall that got past the outfielder. Roederer raced to third, sliding head-first for a triple to complete the cycle.

Roederer was picked in the second round of the 2018 MLB draft out of high school and despite a slow start he’s starting to heat up in June at A-Ball.

So far in 12 games this month, Roederer is 16-for-47, (.340 average) with a .380 OBP and .617 slugging %. He has one home run, six doubles and two triples, while driving in 10 runs and scoring seven.
