Cubs Most Popular Offseason Signing is Official

-

Hall of Famer Pat Hughes along with color analyst Ron Coomer have reportedly signed multi-year deals to remain the radio voices for the Chicago Cubs.

Hughes, the 2023 Ford C. Frick Award winner and 2022 Cubs Hall of Fame inductee, has been the play-by-play man on Cubs radio since the 1996 MLB season. Meanwhile, it might be hard to believe, but Coomer just completed his 11th year as Hughes’ partner in the Cubs radio booth after replacing Keith Moreland in 2014.

According to Chicago Sun-Times media columnist Jeff Agrest, Hughes and Coomer agreed to their new deals last week.

Without a doubt, locking up Hughes to a contract extension will go down as the most popular offseason signing for Cubs fans and well Coomer is nice too.

The Cubs officially announced the return of Pat and Ron.

The cherry on top would be if the Cubs finally got rid of Zach Zaidman, who has no business being the fill-in play-by-play guy on the radio for this team. Having to endure his fifth inning call is torture enough for Cubs fans.

It might not be a big deal, but under no circumstances should Zaidman be the guy who ends up replacing Hughes. Let’s just hope that conversation is a long ways away from now, but in the meantime how about the Cubs consider looking into Zaidman replacements.

Back to Hughes. Let’s hope the Cubs continue to have him on the Marquee broadcast during select games in the future. Wouldn’t mind that number increasing for the broadcast legend.
